Week 6
Bustin' Down the Door follows a core group of Australian and South African surfers. The title shows how the surfers did not just calmly come into Hawaii and respectfully try new things at the world famous surf break. Instead they came carved through the waves and came boasting through trying to get recognized not only by the people in Hawaii but also the surf magazines. Once they got the attention they desired they used it to their advantage to say everything they could possibly think. They spoke their thoughts loudly for the Hawaiians to hear and once the Hawaiians reacted the door was officially open. The locals formed the Da Hui as a retaliation to the expliotation of Hawaii. Ultimately, the Da Hui just wanted respect for Hawaii and they wanted the Australians and South Africans to respect them as locals. Despite the conflict between surfers the surf industry began with the era of Bustin' Down the Door.
